Listen

"A painter paints pictures on canvas.  But musicians paint their pictures on silence."  ~Leopold Stokowski

This is by far my favorite quote about the greatest thing known to man, Music. As I said before in my first post on this blog, I want to do a little bit of everything and music is definitely one I've thought about as a career. Now a music career doesn't exactly mean being up on stage performing for a huge crowd every night although I do admit that would be a lovely life to live. To me a music career is anything from becoming a sound engineering technician or the biggest and most famous music icon in history. You can also pursue to be an official drummer, guitarist, or back up singer for a solo act, just to name a few more options. All of these career paths sound fantastic but there's one that has all the best traits of these choices and mashes them all up to be my first career choice if I ever dive in to the elusive music industry.

Donna Santella: singer/songwriter/music producer.
How about that for a plaque on my desk.....or should I say music studio?
Yes I am one of those musicians who lock themselves up in their room and write/sing/record their little hearts out to no one.  So if you're one of the very few people who actually take interest in my blog then congrats you know something that I've never physically told anyone before. One of my biggest inspirations for my work is Mr. Edward Christopher Sheeran.

Ed Sheeran
This man, in my opinion, is the greatest singer/song-writer of our time. His lyrics are the words we're too afraid to say out loud and yet his composition of lyrics and music aren't juvenile. Ed Sheeran's craft is beautifully put together. Having said that, he takes pride in producing top quality music whether it be live or making a brand new album. Most of the time he doesn't even need a full multimillion dollar recording studio! He's one of the few artists who uses a loop pedal and has had great success with mainstream media. "A loop pedal allows a performer to record and later replay a phrase or passage from a song. Loops can be created on the spot during a performance or they can be pre-recorded. Some units allow a performer to layer multiple loops."

I have so much respect for Ed Sheeran and his craft. To be a part of the music industry without a doubt would be a dream come true.

  1. Donna, I knew you were interested in working in the music business, but I had no idea you had really wanted to pursue it. I definitely gained some insight at the part in your entry when you claimed to be one of those who locks themself up to sing their hearts out. I love how you admitted that and I think that's a great thing for you to do. I hope you follow your heart (yikes corny much) and do something that you love in the music industry instead of doing something medical like you said you might do. I know you're fantastic at playing guitar and I love the lyrics you come up with for music! Keep it up, I would love to say that I'm friends with a music producer or something one day!

  2. Wow I didn't know that you wanted to pursue a career in the music industry and I think it's fascinating that you know how to play more than one instrument. (I want to hear you play the guitar some time!) I hope you do end up working in the music business because it's clearly something you're very passionate about and I'm sure you'll be great in whatever you do!

  3. Please become a music producer! The loop pedal is pretty cool from what I've seen. I like how you talk about how artists don't need a fancy studio to make good music. It's not always about the technology to become successful, but about how much you love music and how much heart you put into your work.
